Does 100 KB force a smaller resolution?+
Often, yes, for a full-size phone photo. We first try to hit 100 KB by lowering quality alone; if that would make the image look poor, we reduce the resolution instead, since a smaller sharp image usually looks better than a full-size blurry one.
Why did my PNG turn out much smaller as WebP?+
PNG uses lossless compression, which is expensive in file size. WebP allows a small, controlled amount of quality loss, which is usually the only way to fit a photo into 100 KB at a reasonable resolution.
The portal rejected my file. What went wrong?+
Check whether it wants JPG specifically. Some older portals don't accept WebP or PNG at all. Switch to JPG under Advanced options and compress again.
